Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6 NIV

Don’t Be Anxious

If you have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, you will experience chronic, excessive, and uncontrollable worry. You may also be on edge, be easily fatigued, have difficulty concentrating, feel irritable, experience muscle tension, and have problems sleeping. GAD is one of the most common anxiety disorders. Canadian data suggest that one out of every twelve individuals will suffer from GAD at some time in their life. It can be mild or it can contribute to unemployment and serious family and social problems.

Anxiety is crippling. In some cases, it literally prevents a person from getting out of bed. In less inhibiting experiences, it can still stop us from getting on with our lives. Anxiety is common to all human beings at some time in our lives. Life can throw a curve at us and anxiety rises quickly. Our Creator is aware of this. When Jesus was born in a Bethlehem manger, He stepped into our world fully human. We know that He experienced anxiety, when in the Garden of Gethsemane, He literally sweated blood because of what lay ahead of Him – a cruel kangaroo court and bearing the sin of the world on a Calvary cross. Jesus understands when you are anxious, and so the Bible says this in Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” That is what Jesus did in the Garden – three times He went before God the Father in prayer, and finally He was able to get up with peace in His heart, and face what lay ahead. Take whatever you are facing that is causing your anxiety and present it to God and you will experience His peace.
