Words from the Heart for Wednesday December 18th, 2019
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (NIV)
In a monarchy, the Crown is an abstract concept or symbol that represents the state and its government. In Canada, a constitutional monarchy, the Crown is the source of non-partisan sovereign authority and an integral part of the legislative, executive and judicial powers that govern the country. In Canada, the Crown performs each of these functions on the binding advice, or through the actions of, members of parliament, ministers, or judges.
I don’t like it when life gets challenging, and I suspect you don’t either. We prefer days when things purr along nicely and all is well with our world. But we aren’t living in God’s Kingdom yet and so we can expect that there are going to be days when things get a little dicey for us. Sometimes God sends the trials and sometimes He allows them. But He always has a reason and He always has a way out. James 1:12 tells us, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” I have met many Christians who have faced great trial and persecution because of their love for the Lord. None of them said they prayed to be delivered from it – they prayed they would remain faithful throughout, and the ones I met did! Because of their steadfastness, they have enjoyed great blessing from the Lord and have the promise that when the Lord comes, they will receive the crown of life. The next time you face opposition for your faith and witness, trust God to give you all you need to stand strong.
These have been words from the heart.
