Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.
Psalm 105:4 NIV
Seek His Face
Face of Canada was an art exhibition displaying paintings of notable Canadians. It was showcased on July 1, 2011, at Canada Place in Vancouver, displaying over 100 oil portraits of notable individuals, both past and present, that helped shape the nation. Celebrities seemed to be the hit of the show as some of the most recognizable Canadians. Stars past and present (at the time) from John Candy to Michael Buble and Sandro Oh to Shania Twain were gracing the walls of the ballroom.

A person is recognized by his or her face. We don’t think about this much, but if you are returning home from a trip and someone you love is meeting you at the airport, there is nothing so welcoming as seeing their face as you walk through the doors and see them in the waiting area. Their smile makes your heart leap. It is in this sense that King David writes what he does in Psalm 105:4: “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” The Bible teaches that God is Spirit, so He doesn’t have an actual face. But when we seek the Lord, when we set aside everything else in order to experience His presence, we will find our hearts warmed and filled with His peace and strength. King David often felt the need for God’s presence. His life was not easy – he had all the responsibilities of ruling an unruly nation, and throughout his life he faced those who opposed him. So he speaks from experience when he calls us to look to the Lord and seek His face. Let’s take time today to seek the face of God as we trust Jesus Christ.
These have been words from the heart.
