“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

John 17:24-26 NIV

Before the Foundation of the World

A chartered flight carrying more than 300 Ukrainian nationals landed at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport from Warsaw on June 2, 2022. While many were expected to stay in Nova Scotia, others will resettle in other parts of Atlantic Canada. Nova Scotia has a Ukrainian community of more than 9,000 people. In March, the province donated $100,000 to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation to provide humanitarian support such as food, medical aid and emergency shelter.

Human beings like to make plans, usually short range. Organizations like Bible League Canada make plans anywhere from one to ten years ahead and even longer horizons. It just makes sense. The reality is that when human beings make plans, the further out the plans are, the more adjustment needs to be made as time goes by. This isn’t so for God. Even before the foundation of the world, He knew that men and women, the highest of His creation, would disobey Him and would pay severe consequences for our sin. So He put together a redemption plan, and that included you. In John 17:24-26 Jesus prays: “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” God’s redemptive plan includes you. Trust Him completely.
