Words from the Heart for Wednesday August 21st, 2019
No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.
Jeremiah 10:6-7 (NIV)
No One Like You
An Angus Reid poll from earlier this year shows that Canadians love their home province, but don’t necessarily think much of other provinces in this vast country. According to Shachi Kurl, Executive Director of Angus Reid, provinces aren’t super keen on each other, highlighting a cantankerous confederation. Kurl said, “This is not, you know, a nation that’s sort of unified across a cohesive confederation but one that very much seems to be sliced and diced into regional blocs.” The most love expressed between provinces is among those in the Maritimes.
Mankind has never been content with God ruling over us. From early on in the story of the people of Israel, they clamoured for a human king, like the nations around them. But people are so fickle. We Canadians have a habit of electing a government and before long, turfing them out. We are never satisfied for long with any human leader. There is only one Ruler with whom we are comfortable eternally. Jeremiah 10:6-7 speaks of Him: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.” The wisest human rulers recognize their need to place themselves under the authority of the One who rules perfectly over all the affairs of the world. He knows each of us intimately and what is best for us. He rules over the human heart with compassion and justice. The wise place themselves under His care and control and trust Him to lead them in every way. Have you?
These have been words from the heart.
