For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
Romans 6:9 NIV
Never Die Again
In the summer of 1749, as part of the new settlement of Halifax, an acre of land was laid out as a burying ground beyond the palisade protecting the town’s southern edge. A public cemetery receiving burials of persons of many faiths, its capacity was soon tested by a typhoid fever epidemic which killed over a thousand settlers in the winter of 1749-1750. Alarmed by the threat to public health, Governor Edward Cornwallis ordered that “all householders were … to notify deaths within twenty-four hours.”

Jesus’ resurrection changed everything. For everyone. No longer would death hold power over any human being. And most importantly, never again would it hold sway over Him. When Jesus burst forth from the tomb, He was alive forever. Unleashed in the world by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus has taken His position seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven. And because He will never die again, His reign and rule is eternal. In Romans 6:9 Paul writes “For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.” Jesus is alive forever. Because He is, we can count on His abiding presence, His provision, His love and grace. By the presence of the Holy Spirit, Jesus has taken up residence in each of us, guiding us, empowering us, leading us, filling us with His holy presence. The resurrection of Jesus is far more than just an historical fact. It is the foundation of our transformed life and our Christian life. The foundation of our faith is Jesus, the one who lived, died, and rose again, never to die again.
These have been words from the heart.
