Words from the Heart for Wednesday April 24th, 2019

My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for … the God of Israel. But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’

2 Chronicles 6:7-9 (NIV)

A Specific Call

My family and I lived in Florida for a number of years, at the time when the Internet was only just being introduced to the world. A radio program called Canada Calling was our lifeline to Canada. Canadians travelling to the southern U.S. and beyond have been tuning in to Canadian news on this program for 65 years. Prior Smith’s Canada Calling broadcasts of news from home on air and online serve the more than 4 million Canadians throughout Florida, California, south Texas and the Bahamas during the winter months.

God always keeps His promises. He must – it is impossible for Him to go back on His word. For example, He had told David that he wasn’t allowed to build the Temple, but that his son Solomon would do so. When Solomon stepped onto the throne, he made the building of the Temple a priority, out of respect for his father and in obedience to God’s call. 2 Chronicles 6:7-9 says, “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’” God fulfilled His promise to David and to Solomon. And Solomon had been faithful to the specific call of God on his life. When we step out in faith to fulfill God’s specific call on our lives, we can count on Him to keep His promises to us as we move forward in obedience.

These have been words from the heart.
