Words from the Heart for Tuesday September 14th, 2021
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV)
Help Them Up
Very early on in the pandemic, people began to offer support to their neighbours in communities coast to coast. In Canada, Facebook support groups began popping up throughout to give self-isolating neighbours the opportunity to both ask for and offer help. Jane Affleck, a sessional instructor at the University of Prince Edward Island, began her Facebook support group. Within 24 hours, the group had hundreds of members offering each other practical advice and support. Some offered to pick up and deliver supplies for those who couldn’t do it for themselves.
I love watching children play. They run with abandonment, they push, shove and fall down, immediately getting back up and off they go again. Things change drastically as we get older. Seniors live in fear of falling, knowing that it is challenging if not impossible for them to get up without help. This is the case not only physically. All of us need to guard our hearts to assure that we don’t fall into the sin that so easily entangles us. Fortunately, God has provided other believers to help us stand strong in our faith and to help us get up when we fall. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says this: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” God is always available to pick us up when we fall to temptation. He is the God of grace, always the God of the second chance. When you sin, immediately seek His forgiveness and restoration. He will hear your prayer and lift you up.
These have been words from the heart.
