Words from the Heart for Tuesday October 29th, 2019
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
Luke 11:13 (NIV)
God the Giver
In their 2014 filings with CRA, Canadian charities reported receiving total donations of approximately $18.5 billion ($15.5 billion in the form of receipted donations and $3.0 billion in unreceipted donations). Commonly, donations are not receipted because charities are unable to identify the donor – donations of loose change, for example, or because the amount donated was small. Based on the amounts claimed on personal income tax returns, donations from individual Canadians accounted for at least $9.6 billion of this.
People can be amazing. In spite of all the tragic news we hear from around the world, what doesn’t make the news are the untold number of acts of kindness, compassion and generosity that take place in our world on a daily basis. I have the great joy and privilege of traveling to many countries around the world and everywhere I go I meet people that care for each other, parents who would do anything for their children and grandchildren, and offer incredibly selfless acts of love. Jesus uses all of this to point to the incredible love of God for His people. In Luke 11:13 we read: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” God the Heavenly Father loves us so much, and while human nature can so often be self-seeking and self-serving, God is never that way. He will give to those who ask the gift of His Holy Spirit, who takes up residence in us and provides all we need for His peace and joy to not only fill us, but overflow into the lives of others.
These have been words from the heart.
