For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Created and Knitted Together

Heather Breadner is the owner of Aberdeen’s Wool Shop in Lindsay, Ont. and she wanted to put her knitting needles to good use during the pandemic. “I was looking for a way to amplify the humanity of the people that we’ve lost during COVID-19,” she says. From that idea, the COVID-19 Memorial Blanket Project was born. The blanket is made up of knitted 12×12 inch squares, each representing a life that has been lost in Canada to the virus.

In a world that promotes the idea we are all a matter of chance, the product of an infinite number of coincidences over billions of years that just happened to produce you, the Bible teaches something different. David wrote this in Psalm 139:13: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” The Psalmist understood that we are created by a loving God who was active in our life from the moment of conception. He has known you before He created you. Christian author Craig D Lounsbrough wrote, “If we are merely a chance product of ‘random happenstance’ and nothing more, doesn’t it strike you as a bit odd that we have the ability to contemplate the question of ‘random happenstance’ with such methodical complexity?” Good point. One of the greatest arguments that human beings are created for eternity is that we ponder eternity. The reality is that you are not a product of random happenstance. God loves you because He created you. You are special to Him.

These have been words from the heart.
