Words from the Heart for Tuesday October 12th, 2021
The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.
Isaiah 50:4 (NLT)
Comfort the Weary
For the overwhelming majority of us, nature has been a welcome relief during COVID-19. A new poll, conducted by Ipsos for the Nature Conservancy of Canada, shows Canadians are reporting a greater awareness of nature in their lives since the pandemic began. 94 percent of respondents credit time spent in nature with helping to relieve stress and anxiety. Nine out of ten Canadians value nature now more than ever, with that same number saying we need to invest more to restore and care for natural areas.
Study after study show that Canadians are generally weary of the pandemic and from the pandemic. We are human after all, and we get weary from so much of life. Our Creator knows this. The Gospels often tell of times when Jesus Himself was weary – the needs of the people to whom He was ministering were overwhelming. Our God had experienced the exhaustion that comes too easily in our world. And He gives a great promise. Isaiah 50:4 says “The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.” God cares so much for us. Isaiah reminds us that God has given us two things to comfort us. He uses other people to speak comfort into our lives. How often have we been comforted by another follower of Jesus when we’ve needed comfort? And He speaks to us through His Word – the words he inspired Isaiah and the other authors of the Bible to write in order to bring comfort to our souls. How can you give the comfort of Jesus to somebody today?
These have been words from the heart.
