Words from the Heart for Tuesday November 10th, 2020
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
John 3:3-4 (NIV)
Canada is one of the few countries that will give automatic citizenship to your child if they were born here, even if you are not a Canadian citizen. But just because your child was born here does not mean that you can automatically stay in the country and become a Canadian citizen. In most cases, if you don’t already have permanent residency or a Canadian citizenship, even if your child was born here, you will have to return to your country of origin with your child.
People have various opinions about who Jesus is. Some say He is a great teacher, and try to live according to His teaching. Others view Him as a prophet, yet others a sage. All this would be fine if we needed a better teacher, or a more trustworthy prophet or a wiser wise man. The Bible teaches that while Jesus is a great teacher, and is the wisest person to ever live, our deepest need demands someone far greater. In John 3:3-4, Jesus tells a religious leader named Nicodemus this: “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Nicodemus missed what so many in our world miss. Jesus didn’t come to make us better. At the heart of our being we don’t need to be better. We need to be totally transformed. We need to have our sinful nature replaced by the righteousness of Jesus. That’s what Jesus meant when He said we need to be born again. That happens only through trusting Jesus as the Saviour He is.
