Words from the Heart for Tuesday May 28th, 2019
The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.
Psalm 11:4 (NIV)
Doctors of optometry require seven to eight years of post-secondary education to obtain their professional designation, Doctor of Optometry (OD). Educational requirements typically include: A minimum of three years of undergraduate education, preferably in the sciences. This is followed by a four or five year university program in optometry, accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education, at either Waterloo University in Ontario, or the University of Montreal in Quebec. An increasing number of optometrists choose to do an additional year of residency training upon completion of their Doctor of Optometry degree.
Some of you will remember the old children’s song we used to sing in Sunday School – be careful little feet where you go … for the Father up above is looking down in love. This is a solidly Biblical principle and not the first one to be included in a hymn. Psalm 11:4 puts it this way: “The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.” We live in a world where we can’t avoid temptation. It comes at us and usually when we are least expecting it. We would be wise to let this verse settle into our hearts. The Lord sees when temptation comes our way and he promises in his word that he will always provide a way out. But we must remember to look up. Part of walking in victory is the awareness of God’s abiding presence in and around us. For the follower of Jesus, this verse doesn’t bring fear, but the assurance that God is looking down in love as the hymn says. Looking down to give us victory over temptation.
These have been words from the heart.
