Words from the Heart for Tuesday May 15th, 2018

For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.

Psalm 95:3-4 (NIV)

The Great God

Our God is not only “great,” He is also “greater.” There are many gods followed among the peoples of the earth, but our God alone is the highest God. The creation gives evidence of the power and supreme position He holds. Here is an amazing picture of the depths of the earth fitting into His hands. Even the mountain peaks which challenge the greatest effort of man belong to Him.

The newest generation of ships that ply the Great Lakes are great themselves. Take the Algoma Central G3 Marquis, for example. It is 226 metres long, which is about the size of Toronto’s TD Bank building laid on its side. The captain has to be at the top of his game. The locks on the St. Lawrence Seaway are only 7 and a half meters longer. And when the ship stops in the lock there is only 30 centemetres of clearance on each side.

There are millions, perhaps billions of gods in this world. Your god is whatever comes first in your life. And in our post-Christian culture, every one of the gods is given equal status – so whatever you make your god is just as good as whatever god is mine. That may be what the world believes and teaches, but it is as far from Biblical truth as possible. Listen to what King David writes in Psalm 95:3-4: “For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.” Throughout the Old Testament, God has proven His power over the gods of the nations around Israel. Even the most pagan of kings admitted that the God of Israel was unique. He still is. In a day when the world believes that truth is relative and slippery, the Bible teaches that only Yahweh, who has been ultimately revealed in Jesus Christ, is the one true God. All the others are false at best and harmful at worst. Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ, the One true God?

These have been words from the heart.
