“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Matthew 6:7-8 NIV
Before You Ask
Upon arrival in Canada, those immigrating to this country, and who have the proper documentation, are asked a number of questions. These include: “are you travelling with family, have you been convicted of a serious crime in your home country, how long do you plan to stay in Canada, how much money do you have with you, are you healthy, have you been to Canada previously and if so, were you required to leave?” It is wise to have answers before you are asked.

It has been said that mothers have eyes in the back of their heads. They know what you are thinking and what you have been doing even when you think that isn’t possible. This may not actually be true of your mother, but it is true of God. Jesus taught this just before He introduced the Lord’s Prayer. He teaches His followers this, in Matthew 6:7-8: “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” You never need to wonder if the Lord hears your prayers. The Bible is clear that God hears and answers prayers. But what Jesus teaches is something even more amazing – God not only hears your prayers, He knows your heart. He already knows what you need, what you long for. He just waits to hear from you. What an invitation to pour out our hearts to Him. Take time today to pray, knowing that the Lord already knows what you are going to say to Him, and is preparing to answer.
These have been words from the heart.
