It is amazing to me how far people will go to deny their sin, guilt and shame. I’ve actually had people say to me, when discussing the need for a Saviour, “I’m a pretty good person. I’ve never murdered anyone.” As if murder was the only sin. Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That means that all of us need a Saviour, one who can remove our sin and guilt and gift us with eternal life. Fortunately, that is the very reason that Jesus came. By His death and resurrection, He has secured eternal life. How do we receive the gift of eternal life? The apostle answers that question in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Salvation depends upon us recognizing our sinfulness, and confessing that to God. When the Gospel is preached, the Holy Spirit brings conviction to our souls. We respond to this conviction by confessing our sin and inviting Jesus Christ to remove it. John assures us that when we do that, God will always forgive us and remove our sin. Have you?
These have been words from the heart.
