Words from the Heart for Tuesday March 3rd, 2020
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
Hebrews 3:6 (NIV)
Christ is Faithful
The larger the role faith plays in the lives of Canadians, the more likely they are to say they value altruism over self-fulfillment, a new poll has found. Asked to choose between two approaches as “the best way to live life,” 53 percent of respondents picked “achieving our own dreams and happiness” over “being concerned about helping others.” But when the results were broken down along the spectrum of religiosity, 67 percent of the religiously committed favoured helping others. For non-believers, 65 percent chose the pursuit of happiness.
While there are many people of faith in Canada, in spite of the secularization of our culture, what is more important is the faithfulness of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus. This is what Hebrews 3:6 says, “But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.” As important as our faith in Jesus Christ is, as the foundation of our salvation and our day by day walk with Him, what is critical to our faith is His faithfulness to us. We can be so fickle in our walk with Him. We go wandering off like lost sheep or wayward children. Meanwhile, He remains steadfast in His rule over our lives. I love the analogy used here: we are God’s house. It is in us that He takes up residence and reigns over our lives. As He does so, He helps us hold firmly to our confidence and hope in Him. It is all His work in us. You are God’s house, and Jesus has taken up residence. How will that help you live victoriously today?
