Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

In All Circumstances

Library and Archives Canada holds records related to the death of service personnel from both the First and Second World War grouped into one series. The First World War is found in volumes 145 to 238 which consist of registers known as the “Brown Binders.” They include information on the circumstances of death with particulars of the initial grave site. The registers are arranged in alphabetic order and provide for each Canadian Expeditionary Force member a two-page document.

One of the things that keeps life interesting is never really knowing what is going to happen next. I had my evening all planned the other day when right out of the blue I got a phone call from a friend in Texas I hadn’t spoken to in a while, and it changed everything I had planned. In that case, the circumstances were good – it isn’t always that way. Circumstances of life happen that way. Which makes what the apostle Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 so important: “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” When you are a follower of Jesus, He has your entire life well in hand. Even when the circumstances aren’t all that positive – maybe even really challenging – Jesus is with you in the midst of it, giving you reasons to thank Him. When life gets difficult it is even more necessary to take the time to look for the blessings that the Lord sends our way. When we lift our eyes off the difficult circumstances and onto Jesus, praise erupts, and everything comes into proper perspective.

These have been words from the heart.
