If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.

Romans 12:9a (NLT)

The Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference was created to broaden the perspectives of future leaders in business, unions and public administration so that their decisions are based on a practical understanding of the influence of their organizations on the general welfare of the community. Members of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference come from different regions of Canada, different perspectives and different careers. All members share one thing in common: they are high potential individuals expected to achieve senior leadership positions in their organizations and communities.

If you’ve been fortunate, somewhere over the years you have had the privilege of working with good leaders. They capably led you, or your organization or company, to be better than you would have been without them. They were respected and appreciated. Leaders work hard at improving their leadership skills and if they are a follower of Jesus, they study God’s Word in order to learn how Jesus led. That is how it should be. In Paul’s Romans 12 list of motivational gifts, the apostle writes this in Romans 12:9a: “If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.” Just as with all of these gifts, God has given the gift of leadership to some, and they are called to lead well. If you are a leader within the body of Christ, you must take that role seriously. Others within the body need you to lead as Christ led – as a servant of your brothers and sisters in Christ. Take time each day to examine what the Bible teaches leaders – there are many examples throughout God’s Word of godly leaders taking their calling and gifting seriously. The Body of Christ needs you to lead well.

These have been words from the heart.
