Words from the Heart for Tuesday June 19th, 2018

For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Psalm 108:4 (NRSV)

Steadfast Love

When we are faced with difficulties, this is a good reminder of just how great is the Lord’s love for us. His love is great and steadfast. We can lean upon Him and He will not fail us. Are you facing a challenge today? Take time to look out at the clouds high above where you stand. His faithfulness to you reaches that high and far, far beyond.

If there was a place in Canada to watch the royal wedding a month ago, it was in Victoria, BC, a city named after Prince Harry’s ancestor. More than 100 people gathered at the Union Club to watch Harry and Meghan publicly express their steadfast love, with some arriving at 3 a.m. Pacific Time. The venue is on the edge of Victoria’s harbour, where British sensibilities are often on display. The wedding, happening several time zones away, was broadcast live on a giant TV screen.

There are some things you can just count on. The sun is going to come up tomorrow, your tax bill will come and you will get to know a funeral director. And one other: God loves you. You can count on that more than anything else. You never have to wonder about this, or worry about whether this is true. King David had experienced God’s steadfast love. In the midst of his great sin, David had experienced God’s redemptive love that had set his heart right. So he writes in Psalm 108:4: “For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” Describing human love is challenging enough – the great poets and muses throughout history have given it their best. But trying to describe God’s love is even more challenging. David says that is it higher than the heavens. Add to that God’s faithfulness that reaches to the clouds and you get some idea about the height of God’s love for you. However you describe it, you can experience God’s love and faithfulness as you put your trust in Jesus Christ. You will find Him to be completely faithful because He loves you fully.

These have been words from the heart.
