For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Sharper

A day after the August 2022 frightening video of a sword-swinging fight in Brampton emerged online, Peel regional police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said investigators have identified persons of interest in the melee. “I can confidently say that the investigation is progressing well and we anticipate holding those people accountable,” Milinovich said while showing off more than $12 million in seized drugs from a separate probe. “I can very confidently tell you that our team is on it, and we anticipate speaking to the people responsible very shortly.”

I remember as a boy, long before there were computers, spending a Sunday afternoon counting Laura Secord chocolate boxes, helping my dad with inventory. It was my first job, and the inventory team, his entire staff and family, were responsible to count everything in the pharmacy. My dad was responsible to count every pill. He had to do this deep dig into how business was going. The Bible tells us that followers of Jesus ought to do a deep dig into our spiritual lives. We are called to take inventory. We do so, through comparing our own lives against the word of God. Hebrews 4:12 puts it this way: “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Like a sharp sword, this verse says, the word of God will penetrate deep within our souls to point out where we are falling short of God’s high calling for His people. Each and every day, take time in God’s word and take inventory.

These have been words from the heart.
