Words from the Heart for Tuesday July 6th, 2021
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Psalm 51:7 (NIV)
During the month of September 2021, National CleanUp Day and Earth Day Network are working with grassroots organizations and community members to clean up green spaces, urban landscapes, and waterways across Canada. With participation in all Provinces and Territories, they aim to clean up locations in your area — and opportunities to spread the action to communities nationwide — the National CleanUp Day will build an army of volunteers and make a tangible impact on waste in our environments. Canada is a beautiful country, and one of the reasons is because we care about keeping it clean and pristine. I wonder if we take as much care in keeping our inner life clean. The Bible speaks to the need for a heart that is pure and holy. King David understood this. He was so aware of his human proclivity to sin, and this was particularly so following his affair with Bathsheba and then arranging the killing of her husband Uriah. He opens his heart for all to see in Psalm 51 and in verse 7 he writes: “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” In David’s day hyssop, a garden herb in the mint family, was used as a purifying medication, that left a sweet, aromatic scent. David knew that his spiritual heart was sick from sin and needed cleansing and healing. So, he reached out in prayer to the only One who could transform His heart. He knew by faith that God would cleanse him if he asked – so David asked. Have you? By Jesus’ death on the cross, He offers cleansing from sin for all who reach out in faith to Him.
These have been words from the heart.
