Our relationship to Jesus impacts every part of our lives. Not only are we called to nourish our relationship to God once it is established by His grace, we are called to love our neighbour as ourselves. Every relationship we have with other human beings ought to be influenced for good by our faith in Jesus Christ. So it shouldn’t surprise us that God set down some clear laws about business transactions. In Leviticus 19:13 we read “Do not defraud or rob your neighbour. Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.” In Biblical days, and still in many parts of the world today, people were day labourers. They did a day’s work and got paid at the end of that day. They truly lived day to day. A godly man or woman is called to live a life of honesty and integrity in relationship with friends, neighbours and business associates. There ought to be no more honest or consistent person than a follower of Jesus. Even if it costs us something we should always do the right thing, the honest thing, the fair thing. Do these words mark your life, follower of Jesus? If not, start today.
These have been words from the heart.
