Words from the Heart for Tuesday July 10th, 2018

You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever.

Hebrews 1:12 (NLT)

Always the Same

We may have had the experience of getting a brand new outfit. We took the best care of it and wore it proudly. However, that outfit will grow old with use. The day will come when it is discarded and replaced by something new. The Bible tells us that our God will outlast even the majestic creation He has made. You can place your trust in this eternal God.

Although the Great Lakes are so large it seems they never change, the reality is far different. The number of invasive species is on the increase. While only one new non-native aquatic species has been found since 2006 – a type of zooplankton – invasives already in the lakes have continued to cause problems where they have been established. Sea lampreys continue to prey on native species. Zebra and quagga mussels continue to dominate the bottom-dwelling ecosystem. Five terrestrial invasive species have recently been found to be widely distributed and expanding.

Nothing in this world is permanent. Life can change in a heartbeat. Even what appears to be the most majestic and immense – like a Hawaiian mountain – can suddenly explode, leaving homes and lives at risk. As we read through the Bible, we understand that a day is coming when the Creator of this world will prove just how impermanent this world is. Listen to what Hebrews 1:12 says in speaking of the heavens and the earth: “You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever.” If we put our hope in anything in this world, we will be disappointed. That which seems so permanent can so quickly be taken from us – our possessions, our loved ones, our finances. Only the Creator Himself is the unchangeable One. So, the Bible calls us to put our hope in Him alone. He is the unchanging God, the same yesterday, today and forever. Are you trusting completely in Him? Is your hope in Him alone? It can be if you will reach out to your Creator God today in faith.

These have been words from the heart.
