Words from the Heart for Tuesday January 8th, 2019

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.

Genesis 26:4-5 (NIV)

As Numerous as the Stars

In 1892, the Toronto News, published each afternoon, faced a labour dispute. 21 printers and four teenage apprentices who had been locked out decided to publish what they called a “Paper for the People.” On November 3, 1892 the first edition of the Evening Star was published – a four page sheet designed to give the News a run for its money. They couldn’t possibly have imagined that their new publication would grow into Canada’s largest daily newspaper – the Toronto Star.

God had made a covenant promise to Abraham and down through the years we have seen God’s faithfulness in keeping that promise. He told Abraham that his offspring would be as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the shore. We look at our own day and see the millions of Jewish and Arab people around the world, each of whom traces their ancestry to this one man, and we see how prophetic God’s promise was. The Bible tells us that the blessings continue to pour forth because of Abraham’s faithfulness. God says just that to Abraham’s son, Isaac, in Genesis 26:4-5: “”I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.”” The blessing of God continues to all those who walk with Him by faith. Hebrews 11 lists those who are blessed because of their walk of faith. We are called to a life of faith in Christ as well, as can count on God’s blessings in our lives as we do.
