“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

A New Thing

Have you noticed a little splash of blue in your pocket recently? This past October 22, the Royal Canadian Mint launched Canada’s first-ever coloured dimes to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bluenose, the famous fishing schooner that graces the coins. The Mint has also redesigned the image of the schooner for the first time since it appeared on Canada’s 10-cent coin in 1937. The new design is by Nova Scotia marine artist Yves Bérubé. Bluenose launched from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in March 1921.

As we move further into the new year, and life gets back to normal after the holidays, we look ahead to all that the Lord has in store for us during 2022. His desire is to make all things brand new and to change us daily to become more and more like Jesus. The prophet recognized this and wrote in Isaiah 43:18-19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” No matter what happened in 2021, and it was such a challenging year for so many people, God wants to do something new in this year. He has a plan for your life that will unfold as you move through the year. We can continue to live with a “woe is me” attitude, reliving all the difficult things that have happened in our past. Or we can look with faith to all the new things God has in store for us. These new things will spring up like streams in the wilderness. Look ahead with faith.

These have been words from the heart.
