Words from the Heart for Tuesday February 5th, 2019
So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Numbers 1:54 (NLT)
The Canadian Kennel Club holds obedience trials, designed to test a dog’s suitability as a good companion. Basic tests include heeling (on and off lead), Sit, Stand, Stay and coming when called. At more advanced levels, dogs are instructed to jump, retrieve, respond to signals, and identify and retrieve articles carrying their handler’s scent. The basic objective of obedience trials is to produce dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs, in a manner that reflects credit on the sport of obedience. All participants should be guided by the principles of good sportsmanship both inside and outside the ring.
When our children were little we used to tell them that obedience wasn’t obedience unless it was immediate. To this day, if I say the word “obedience” those now adults will repeat back the rest of that statement. The people of Israel were not always obedient to the call of God on their lives. But when they were, it was a beautiful things to behold. Numbers 1:54 says this: “So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.” I wish it was always that easy. Our human nature is such that we too often want our own way. We pay a price for disobedience, physically, emotionally and relationally. How much wiser are we when this statement from Numbers can be said of us. It takes God’s grace and power for us to live a life of consistent obedience. It also takes a daily commitment to living a life that honours the Lord and marks us as a Christ-follower. Have you asked the Lord for the grace today to live in every way according to His will for your life?
These have been words from the heart.
