Words from the Heart for Tuesday February 26th, 2019
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Deuteronomy 32:4 (KJV)
Just and Right
The Canadian justice system is unique in the world. Two official languages (English and French) and two legal traditions (common law and civil law) co-exist within our system of justice. Canada’s legal system is based on the English and French systems. Explorers and colonists brought these systems to Canada in the 17th and 18th centuries. After the Battle of Quebec in 1759, the country fell under English common law, except for Quebec, which follows civil law. The common law is law that is not written down as legislation.
If you’ve ever read a John Grisham book, it can make you jaded about the judicial system. He writes about judges on the take and lawyers chasing ambulances. The sad thing is that what he writes about is too commonly true. Our judicial system is flawed, because human beings are flawed. Witnesses miss things or their memories are poor. Is there any place where justice is perfect? Deuteronomy 32:4 answers that question: “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” God is the perfect judge. He is the Truth, so knows all that is true and all that is not. He is perfect justice, so knows what sentence is best for each of us. He can never be bribed or coerced and He never makes a wrong decision. If you are in need of justice, bring your claim before the Lord. He knows all things, and one day He will see to it that justice is meted out perfectly. Trust Him in this – He is just and right – always.
