Words from the Heart for Tuesday December 29th, 2020
“Listen! I will come at a time you don’t expect, like a thief. Great blessings belong to those who stay awake and keep their clothes with them. They will not have to go without clothes and be ashamed for people to see them.”
Revelation 16:15 (ERV)
Like A Thief
Winnipegger Gerald Daniel Blanchard is best known for orchestrating complex frauds and heists on three continents. In 1998, at the age of 26, Blanchard parachuted onto the roof of the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna from a small airplane in the middle of the night. He then stole the Star of Empress Sisi, one of 27 diamond-and-pearl hair ornaments worn by Elisabeth of Bavaria, consort of Francis Joseph I. Blanchard disabled the alarm and replaced the jewel with a replica he had previously purchased at the souvenir shop.
No one likes the prospect of being robbed. We go to great lengths to ensure that our homes are locked and protected from thieves. We have to remain vigilant, because we never know when a thief will decide to attempt a break in. Jesus used this analogy to speak about His return. He says this in Revelation 16:15: “Listen! I will come at a time you don’t expect, like a thief. Great blessings belong to those who stay awake and keep their clothes with them. They will not have to go without clothes and be ashamed for people to see them.” Jesus-followers have been waiting for two thousand years for His return. We long to see Him come again. In the meantime, we need to stay vigilant. When Jesus speaks about clothing here, He is not speaking literally, of course. After all, when He comes, we will be given an entirely new body. So, like His burial clothes, they will be useless in the new Kingdom. The clothes that Jesus is speaking about here are the clothes of His righteousness. We need to be prepared spiritually for His coming. Are you?
These have been words from the heart.
