They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Matthew 2:11 (NLT)
They Entered the House
How much living space does a Canadian refer to as ideal? And, how does the average house size in Canada compare to other countries globally? According to a 2017 report by Statista Research Department, the size of Canadian homes averaged at 1,792 square feet—a significant increase compared to the 1,050 square feet average back in 1975. Canada comes third, after the US and Australia when it comes to average home size preferences. Residents here enjoy 13% to 26.6% more living space, as compared to countries in Europe.
Jesus was likely a toddler when the magi arrived. We assume this because when evil Herod heard that these sages from the east were looking for the one born King of the Jews, he had all little boys two and under murdered. Jesus would have been old enough to be aware that something special was happening. Imagine a two-year-old watching as these wealthy and powerful men, attired in their oriental best, knelt and presented Him with gifts. Matthew 2:11 records the scene: “They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” They had spent months traveling to visit Jesus. It had cost them time, energy and finances to come and worship. They recognized that this child was worth giving their all in order to worship Him. We are called to offer Jesus our everything in worship as well. How can we not give our all to the One who is our Creator and Redeemer? What can you offer Him today for all He has done for you?
