Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Matthew 5:9 NIV
On June 9, 2023, the Government of Canada announced more than $69.5 million in funding for a total of 26 projects to support security, peace and stability in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. Through the Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Program and the Middle East Strategy, Canada is investing more than $30.3 million in 13 projects across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia to support the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
I recently watched a YouTube video of an interview with a World War II veteran who was involved in the freeing of a concentration camp at the end of the war. He made a plea for the world to never forget and called people to speak up against racism in any form. He also called people to turn to God and seek peace. All of this is Biblical. Jesus said, in Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” The world longs for peace and yet it remains so elusive. Those of us who have experienced the peace that Jesus offers know that there will be no peace in the world until Jesus comes in the fullness of His Kingdom. In the meantime, He calls us to bring the peace of Christ into every relationship we have – within the body of Christ and outside. Peace in our world begins with the peace that comes when our sins are forgiven and our relationship with our Creator is secured. As we share the Gospel, we bring peace to those who respond to Jesus. In a world that longs for peace, we have the only true hope. Be the peacemaker Jesus says will be called the children of God.
These have been words from the heart.
