Words from the Heart for Tuesday December 14th, 2021
You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.
Luke 1:45 (NLT)
Doing What He Said
According to the Report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, released on July 23, 2018, “Since the adoption of the Declaration on human rights defenders in 1998, at least 3,500 human rights defenders have been killed for their role in the struggle for human rights. Countless other human rights defenders have suffered all forms of indignities and abuses.” Canada has consistently kept its word when it comes to speaking up on behalf of human rights defenders globally.
We get so used to people breaking their promises. Many who do are leaders in politics, business and religion. While it is common with human beings, not keeping promises is impossible for the God who has revealed Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. In Luke 1:45 Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, says to Mary, the mother of Jesus, “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” Mary had always understood that when God said something, you could take it to the bank. It is impossible for God to lie because He is by nature Truth. Jesus would teach that He is the Truth. It’s why followers of Jesus have such a high view of Scripture. Mary was blessed, Elizabeth said, because she believed what God had said and so she was chosen to bear the Messiah. We are called to trust the Word of God as well. Throughout the Bible God speaks about the trustworthiness of Scripture. When you believe what God has said you too will be blessed – with His peace and joy and the absolute assurance of your salvation and value.
These have been words from the heart.
