Words from the Heart for Tuesday August 7th, 2018
Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?” Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
Psalm 115: 2-3 (NIV)
Where is Their God?
This is a very important revelation given to us from the Word of God. We hear voices that try to make God distant from our world. Some would say that they have no responsibility to him. They are the makers of their own way. But, our God is above all authorities and rulers. He is greater than those who refuse Him a place in their lives. He does whatever He pleases and does not need to ask permission.
With the bulk of Canada being in or close to the Arctic, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the majority of Canadians live as far south as possible. 80% of Canadians live within 250 kilometres of the border with the United States. I googled “where is Canada” and one website said “Some travellers heading over here may be shocked if they arrive in the winter. Even the most popular cities can get extremely cold and tend to break records thanks to our proximity to the Arctic.”
Christians often have to face the questions asked by those who don’t know Christ about why we believe that Jesus is uniquely the Saviour of the world, and why we believe that the God we worship is the One true God. How can we know, they ask, that the God we believe in is any more real than all the other gods worshipped around the world. Ours is not the first generation to ask that question. In fact, as far back as the days of King David, doubters were asking that same question. Psalm 115:1-2 says, “Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?” Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.” In those days, every nation had their gods. When Israel claimed that their God was unique, the nations around mocked them, asking them to prove the uniqueness of God. So David prays that the Lord would reveal His glory to the nations around. In our day, we can ask the One true God to do that same thing – to reveal His glory from heaven. He will do so by transforming the lives of all who put their faith and trust in Him.
