Words from the Heart for Tuesday August 27th, 2019
Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”
Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)
Each week, Public Works employees collect the coins thrown into the fountain around the eternal flame on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Back in 2005, the House of Commons human resources committee began to award the $4,000 to $5,000 collected every year “to a person with a disability to enable him or her to conduct research and prepare a report on the contributions of one or more Canadians with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament.”
Life isn’t always easy. We all have bad days, when nothing seems to be going well. For some, the bad days turn into bad weeks and months, even years. And if you are a follower of Jesus, you come to doubt His love for you. God has always stood with His people no matter what they are facing and how long the challenging times last. And He promises that this life is not all there is – there is a future waiting for His people. He gave the people of Israel that hope at the end of their 40 years of captivity in Babylon. Jeremiah 31:3 says, “Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” No matter how far the peoples’ hearts had wandered from the Lord, God never quit calling them His own. Even when He had to allow them to face great challenges in order to draw their hearts back to Himself, He never stopped loving them. And He never stops loving us either. No matter how far our hearts wander from Him, He lovingly draws us back, drawing us as well with His everlasting love.
These have been words from the heart.
