Words from the Heart for Tuesday April 27th, 2021
Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
Psalm 119:111-112 (NIV)
My Heritage Forever
The Minister of Canadian Heritage is the minister of the Crown who heads the department of the Government of Canada responsible for culture, media, sports, and the arts. The position was created in 1996 to combine the posts of minister of multiculturalism and citizenship and minister of communications. The minister of Canadian heritage is responsible for such things as the arts, cultural heritage and industries, national battlefields, museums archives and libraries and the encouragement, promotion and development of sport.
If you ever want to ponder the brevity of life, go for a stroll through a cemetery. They are park-like and quiet, and you will always find interesting things to look at. But mostly you will be reminded that we are only on earth for a time, a specific time in history that all too quickly passes. My goal is to leave behind something far more valuable than simply the tombstone under which I am buried. I share the sentiment of King David, who wrote in Psalm 119:111-112: “Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.” What a heritage David left behind. He was committed to God’s statutes – the Word of God. I wonder if he knew that what he wrote would become an integral part of the Bible – God’s holy Word. His proclamation ought to be shared by all who know Jesus Christ by faith. When I pass into eternity, I want to leave a heritage of being a man of God’s Word. There is nothing better, of greater value in eternity, than to leave behind a legacy of love for and commitment to God’s Word.
These have been words from the heart.
