See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig-tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.

Song of Songs 2:11-13 (NIV)

The Winter is Past

According to the website SeasonsYear.com, “As a rule, the winter in most of Canada comes into its own in November, when cold winds come, and the subzero temperature stays stable all day. The farther north, the colder the winter: in some areas the air temperature seldom rises above -15C, which together with the cold wind strongly discourages tourists. January is considered the coldest month in the north of mainland Canada.”

Spring is such a beautiful season in Canada. We have survived another Canadian winter and now look forward to months of life and energy. The Bible rejoices in these things as well. Wise King Solomon understands the joy of spring when he writes these words in Song of Songs 2:11-13: “See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig-tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.” Our Creator God always brings life out of death. Through Jesus’ resurrection we can have the assurance that “even though we die, we live.” (John 11:25). Spring is an annual reminder of Jesus’ words, and nowhere in the world is this more obvious than in Canada. As you see the signs of life return to your part of Canada, as the first tiny spring flowers tentatively poke their heads out of the soil, be reminded of the resurrection life that God has provided to all who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ. Death is never the ultimate victor.

These have been words from the heart.
