May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Overflow

The government of Nova Scotia declared a State of Emergency on July 22, 2023, in response to severe flooding across the province after a slow-moving storm dumped more than 250 mm of rain in 24 hours. Residents were advised to stay off the roads as there was significant damage to roads and infrastructure. Extreme caution was also advised near the Sackville River. Halifax Search and Rescue teams were deployed to assist with water rescues. Around 150 people evacuated and moved to an evacuation centre in Dartmouth.

We don’t usually like it when things overflow. A coffee mug or water bottle will leave a spill to clean up, a river will leave millions of dollars of damage. As usual, the principles of the Kingdom of God when it comes to overflow stand in opposition to the principles of the world. Listen to what the Bible says about overflow: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” In a world that is longing for hope, when the Holy Spirit fills our lives with His joy and peace, the overflow is hope. That hope, for life and eternity, flows from our lives and into the lives of those with whom we interact each day. The hope that overflows from our lives doesn’t leave a mess – quite the contrary, it brings life and healing, hope and expectation. As you live your life today, you take with you the presence of Jesus. Allow Him to overflow from your life, your speech, your actions, so that others will have hope too.

These have been words from the heart.
