Words from the Heart for Thursday September 26th, 2019
I led them with kindness and love. I was to them like a person who lifts a little child to their cheek. I bent down and fed them.
Hosea 11:4 (NIRV)
Leading with Kindness
On August 18, Mayor Jeff Brown of the small Saskatchewan town of Milestone, learned that Brian Williams, one of his constituents, had died after a brief illness. The farmer had left behind a wife, three sons and about 640 acres of unharvested durum wheat. So Brown sent out texts to 10 of William’s neighbours, asking them to pitch in to help. The next day 20 farmers and their combines completed the task in just three hours.
We think we are something special, we human beings. We strive to get ahead in this world, and we look up to those who are famous, or rich, or powerful, or popular. What we don’t realize is that we are just like a bunch of children playing “who’s the king of the castle.” While we don’t see ourselves as we really are, God has a different perspective. Hosea 11:4 says, “I led them with kindness and love. I was to them like a person who lifts a little child to their cheek. I bent down and fed them.” God sees deep into our hearts and understands how needy we are. We try to cover up those needs through entertainment or drugs and alcohol, or sex, but in the quiet moments, when we are honest with ourselves, we recognize how needy we are of the assurance that we are not alone in this great universe. In those moments, whether we recognize it or not, God is close to us, leading us in love, filling our lives with His kindness. What a beautiful picture He paints here, of holding us close to Himself as a loving parent or grandparent does. Allow Him to hold you close today.
These have been words from the heart.
