I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26 NIV

Heart of Flesh

The province of Manitoba hired the Winnipeg advertising company McKim Communications to develop their most recent tourism promotion campaign. The company used the province’s geographic location at the centre of Canada to design the newest brand: Manitoba … Canada’s heart beats. The McKim Communications company says this on their website: “We developed the consumer-facing brand Manitoba: Canada’s Heart… Beats to directly link the province to Canada, and elevate its geographic position as the centre — the heart — of the nation.”

Scientists are working hard at using human stem cells to create a human heart. Recently they have been successful at bringing one into being about the size of a sesame seed. It is mind-blowing technology. As beneficial as this might be one day to prolong physical life, God long ago provided a new spiritual heart that guarantees eternal life. In Ezekiel 36:26 we read “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” No human being has an actual heart of stone, of course. Ezekiel is speaking metaphorically. His point is that in our sinful condition, our hearts aren’t naturally turned towards our Creator God and His call upon our lives. The day would come when Jesus would step into our world, and through His death and resurrection would provide a way for every human being to have their heart transformed. We all need a heart transplant. We don’t naturally love God and love others purely. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ something miraculous happens. Our hard hearts become soft towards God and others.

These have been words from the heart.
