Words from the Heart for Thursday September 12th, 2019
Son of man, prophesy and give this message from the Sovereign Lord: “Weep and wail for that day, for the terrible day is almost here—the day of the Lord! It is a day of clouds and gloom, a day of despair for the nations.”
Ezekiel 30:2-3 (NLT)
The Day of the Lord
Canadians love to take day trips. One of the prettiest is through the Eastern Townships in Quebec. Along the way you will discover little produce stands where you can stop and buy local corn, raspberries and apples. And maple syrup, of course. And don’t miss the Abbey of St Benoit du Lac, a Benedictine monastery. Not only will you hear Gregorian chants, but you can pick up some delicious monk-made cheese.
Throughout history God has stepped into human affairs from time to time. He did so to enter into covenants, give the Law and through Jesus Christ, redeem the world. There is coming another day when He once again will step into time and space and will bring an end to this age, ushering in his eternal kingdom. The Bible calls it the Day of the Lord, and among many other places in the Old Testament, we read about it in Ezekiel 30:2-3: “Son of man, prophesy and give this message from the Sovereign Lord: ‘Weep and wail for that day, for the terrible day is almost here—the day of the Lord! It is a day of clouds and gloom, a day of despair for the nations.’” God loves the world that He created, but He cannot ignore the sin that is so prevalent in the world. Isaiah 2:17 says that on that day the arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled. For those who love the Lord Jesus, the Day of the Lord will be a day of rejoicing. For those who have never trusted Christ, it will be a day of reckoning. Evil will be punished and all of God’s promises will be fulfilled.
These have been words from the heart.
