Words from the Heart for Thursday October 8th, 2020
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
John 14:16-17 (NIV)
Canada Helps recently listed 16 youth advocates who are changing their worlds. 16-year-old Faith Dickenson from Peterborough, Ontario is one young advocate. When she was 9 she was told that her aunt, who was battling cancer, was always cold. So, she made her aunt a fleece blanket. Faith created an organization called Cuddles for Cancer and so far, has given over 4,500 blankets all over the world. Blankets have gone to cancer patients, those experiencing homelessness, veterans, first responders and people who have lost loved ones.
From time to time in my role as a pastor, I’ve been in a courtroom while a trial was taking place. I always found the proceedings quite fascinating. One thing I’ve noticed is that having a good lawyer can make a world of difference. Having an advocate speaking on behalf of someone gives a great sense of peace and confidence, and can make a difference between imprisonment and freedom. The good news for the follower of Jesus is that we have an advocate in the courtroom of heaven. Jesus said this in John 14:16-17: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” The Holy Spirit speaks up on our behalf before the Judge of the universe. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we were pronounced forgiven and that same advocate took up residence in us. Walk in forgiveness today.
