Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Hebrews 12:28-29 NIV
Let Us Be Thankful
In a Canmore Alberta real estate website, Devin Stephens writes about why he is thankful to live in Canada. He writes “Canada is a beautiful country, there is no denying it. Sometimes people take for granted how much of a privilege it is to live in this photogenic nation. This Thanksgiving season, amongst many other things- I am thankful to live in this wonderful country because there is no where else I would rather be! Canada is such a vast and beautiful country.”

There are a lot of reasons for us to be thankful to our Creator. We have people we love and who love us. We have food to eat and most of us have a comfortable place we call home. We have hobbies and work, leisure activities and a beautiful world to enjoy. God continues to pour out His blessings on us each day. If that was all He had given us, we would have a lifetime of reasons to express our thanks. But if you are a follower of Jesus, you have something far greater for which to give thanksgiving. Hebrews 12:28-29 says: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’” The moment we place our hope and trust in Jesus we become a citizen of the Kingdom of God. There are great blessings from having that citizenship – we have access to our Creator at any time and in any place and we become a part of the family of God. No wonder Hebrews tells us to be thankful and to worship with reverence and awe.
These have been words from the heart.
