Words from the Heart for Thursday October 25th, 2018
Then he said: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth…”
II Chronicles 6:4 (NIV)
With His Hands
In the record of Scripture we see the work of the hands of the Lord joined to the words of His mouth. This verse celebrates that the Lord is faithful. He gave a word to David about building the place of God’s Presence. That was possible only because the Lord was committed to fulfill the word. He is working with us, too. We will celebrate the desired outcome because our God is faithful.
The Arts and Crafts movement in Canada consisted of architects, teachers, and craftspeople who worked with progressive patrons to integrate beautiful handcraftsmanship into everyday living. The movement was most active in the 1890s through to World War I and was most fully expressed in house designs. The movement had both progressive and conservative connotations – progressive in terms of relaxed, informal plans for house designs, which integrated built-in craft elements; and conservative in terms of connecting Canada with British values.
Working with our hands has been a part of human activity since the beginning of culture. As far back as Genesis 4:22 we are introduced to a man named Tubal-Cain who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. From then on, men and women have worked with their hands. But this didn’t start with human beings. 2 Chronicles 6:4 says “Then he said: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth…” God doesn’t have literal hands, of course. Except when He took on flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, God is a Spirit-being. He is not limited by space. The point that our verse is making is that God never fails to keep His promises. Whatever He promises He will bring about. The God who spoke the world into being, certainly has the power to craft whatever He has promised. Your life is not a product of chance – God has created you lovingly and breathed life into you. And He will continue to do so. You can stand on His promises for your life. Trust Him to craft you and mould you perfectly.
These have been words from the heart.
