Words from the Heart for Thursday October 21st, 2021
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (NIV)
According to the CBC archives website, the story of the Chinese in Canada is one of perseverance. The website says, “They risked their lives to help build Canada’s railway in the 1880s. But as soon as the work was done, Canada just wanted them gone. It was the beginning of a difficult history for Chinese immigrants to Canada. They struggled through the head tax, personal attacks and job discrimination. But the Chinese in Canada persevered. And today, Chinese-Canadians are an integral part of Canada’s multicultural society, forging their own cultural identities.”
In North America, Christians enjoy freedoms that many of our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world can only pray for and dream about. Sure we face opposition sometimes when we live according to Kingdom of God principles. But other believers around the world face persecution that can be life threatening. They understand what it means to have to persevere in their walk with Jesus. In James 1:12 all of Jesus’ followers are called to persevere. It says, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Nothing in the life of the follower of Jesus happens by accident. When we walk in the centre of God’s will for our lives, we have the assurance that nothing that comes our way hasn’t first passed His “okay.” Even the challenging times. When those times come, we are called to persevere in our faith. When we do, we have the promise that we will receive the crown of life that Jesus promises all who love Him.
These have been words from the heart.
