Words from the Heart for Thursday October 1st, 2020
“If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:7 (NIV)
Know Me, Know the Father
One of Canada’s Fathers of Confederation, Samuel Leonard Tilley, was originally a pharmacist hailing from New Brunswick. He sold his successful drugstore to become a politician. He was a proponent of responsible government and of prohibition and a member of several pro-temperance groups. Tilley, along with fellow Maritime premiers Charles Tupper and John Hamilton Gray had started discussing a union prior to 1864, but it was not until the Province of Canada asked for an invitation that a meeting was hurriedly organized for September 1 at Charlottetown.
There is a longing in every human heart for a relationship with our Creator God. We are the only created beings who have a sense of eternity, that there is something beyond this life. The good news is that our Creator longs to be known. He didn’t just create the world and then leave it to run on its own. God is very much involved in all that happens in this sin-sick and suffering world. He wants us to know Him. That’s why He sent Jesus. In Him, we see the Father. Jesus said exactly this in John 14:7: “If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Every man-made religion and philosophy leaves us ultimately empty because none meet the greatest longing – to know God and be known by Him. Jesus is uniquely God’s plan. He is Immanuel – God with us. As we get to know Him through a study of God’s word and prayer, we understand who God is. Colossians 1:15 tells us that he is the image of the invisible God. In knowing Jesus, you know God.
These have been words from the heart.
