Words from the Heart for Thursday October 17th, 2019
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest squid ever caught was 55 feet long – almost 17 metres. It was landed back on November 2, 1878 near Glovers Harbour, Newfoundland. The town of Glovers Harbour built a life size replica of the giant squid, which sits on the shore of the harbour. You need to Google it – you won’t believe how huge this thing was!
Those of us who belong to Jesus Christ by faith have been given great authority to overcome the power of the evil one in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. Most of us don’t take advantage of that power and so live lives that seem so powerless. How can we stand strong in Christ? Jesus teaches His followers a lesson in this when He drives a demon out of a boy that His disciples were unable to. The disciples ask why they were unable to do so, and in Matthew 17:20, we read, “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” If we want to live a life of victory, we do so by faith. And it doesn’t even need to be great faith – Jesus uses one of the smallest things in Israel – a mustard seed – to illustrate. You see, it isn’t the size of your faith that matters, it is the size of your God. And He is so much greater than any challenge you will ever face. So when the pressure is on, put your faith in the great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
