Words from the Heart for Thursday October 10th, 2019
I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.
Zechariah 8:8 (NIV)
Bringing Them Back
I discovered an excellent website for Canadians who are returning to this country after living abroad for some time. The website says, “Canada offers many wonderful things to those returning home. However, there may also be challenges if you are a citizen returning to Canada. You may have to contend with reverse culture shock. Or possibly first-time culture shock, if your spouse and/or children have never lived in Canada before. The logistics of moving home and setting up your new life can also be daunting.
Even before God created the world, He knew that sin would enter into the world through Adam and Eve. And He understood that sin would have the effect of separating sinful people from His holy presence. So He set in motion His plan for redeeming the world. It would come at a great price – the death of His own Son, Jesus Christ. While the price was steep, the reward is eternal. Zechariah had a unique view of the outcome of God’s redemptive plan and writes this in Zechariah 8:8: “I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.” As with all prophecy, there are a number of levels. God would bring them back to Jerusalem from exile in Babylon. And He would do so again in 1948. But it also points to an event yet to take place, when God’s people will live under the rule and authority of God in the new Jerusalem. We long for that day when sin will be no more and when God’s Kingdom will come in its fullness. This is our blessed hope and the day for which God’s people have longed for for centuries.
These have been words from the heart.
