Words from the Heart for Thursday November 28th, 2019
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
A report released last month by real estate giant Royal LePage tells of the impact new Canadians are having on the housing market in Canada. According to the report, which was derived from a survey of 1,500 “newcomers” this past August, “Canadian newcomers” are currently behind 21 per cent of all home purchases in the country, and are projected to buy 680,000 homes over the next five years if migration rates stay the same.
In those moments when I am honest with myself, I often don’t like what I see. Sin too easily finds a place in my heart, and my attitude towards others doesn’t reach the level of selfless compassion that God’s word calls me to. I am too often selfish in my desires and fleshly in my pursuits. I know that I’m redeemed and a son of God by faith. But I still have so far to go. It can be challenging. Then I turn to God’s word and read what 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” When the Lord Jesus takes hold of your heart, everything changes. Your desire changes from self to the Lord and others. In your heart you desire to please God and not yourself. You begin to see others through the eyes of Jesus instead of your own sinful prejudices. It doesn’t mean you are perfect – but now you want to be. It all begins when you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. And it continues throughout your life. In what areas of your life has Jesus changed you completely? Ask him to continue to make those changes.
These have been words from the heart.
