Words from the Heart for Thursday May 20th, 2021
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8 (NIV)
Book of the Law
Since the creation of the Supreme Court, all of its decisions have been published in the Supreme Court Reports, in both English and French. The first volume was published in 1877, containing the first case ever heard by the Supreme Court, Kelly v. Sullivan. Since 1973 they have been identified by their year of publication. By 1975 the reporter started putting out two volumes a year, which increased to between 3 and 4 by 1990.
A few years ago, a ministry did a study that discovered a direct correlation between time in God’s Word and living a life that honours Him. They noticed that if a person spends at least four times a week studying God’s Word, they will live victoriously above the temptation and sin that so often trips up the followers of Jesus. God gives a command in Joshua 1:8: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” The results of the Bible survey shouldn’t surprise us. It simply confirms what the Lord says here. If you want to be spiritually prosperous and successful, spend time reading, studying and pondering what God is saying to you in the Bible. It is filled with instruction, direction, correction, and promises from God for all who love Him and desire to live a life that represents Him in this world. If there was ever a time in history when the Lord needs His people to study His Word, it is today.
These have been words from the heart.
