Words from the Heart for Thursday March 25th, 2021
I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.
Psalm 119:32 (NKJV)
Enlarge My Heart
Over the past several decades, Alberta’s Industrial Heartland has grown into Canada’s largest hydrocarbon processing region. Situated northeast of Edmonton, the region’s geographic footprint is 582 square kilometres, home to over 1.3 million people. The region is home to 40 plus companies in a variety of sectors, including producing and processing oil, gas, and petrochemicals, as well as advanced manufacturing. Since 1958, world renowned companies have chosen to locate in the Heartland due to the natural advantages it offers, with over $40 billion invested to date.
In Dr. Seuss’ iconic book “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” the mean grinch hated Christmas until his heart was increased in size, large enough to love as he should. While this is just a story, the principle of enlarging the heart is a Biblical one. King David, who wrote many of the Psalms, understood the pain of falling into sin, and not having a heart large enough. What does this mean? Listen to what he writes in Psalm 119:32: “I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.” David understood that sin comes when our hearts are filled with the cares and desires of the world, and give God only a small part of our lives, if any room at all. As we read His Word, He begins to enlarge our hearts, filling us with His presence and power. Like the old chorus says, as we turn our eyes upon Jesus the things of earth do grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace. If you want a life of true joy, seek the Lord through regular time in His Word, and He will enlarge your heart.
